- Marine plywood: The standard for quality bathroom vanities in Singapore. Treated to resist moisture, holds screws well, doesn’t swell easily.
- Multilayer waterproof plywood: Phenolic-coated edges, sealed all around. Higher-end choice, common in condo projects.
- WPB plywood (water and boil proof): Resin-bonded for moisture resistance. Solid mid-range option.
- MDF or chipboard: Avoid for bathroom vanities. Even with laminate coating, moisture finds the unsealed edges and the panel swells from the inside out.
- Sintered stone or solid surface: Used for premium vanities — heavier, more expensive, but completely waterproof.
Always ask your contractor to confirm in writing what carcass material is being used. “Standard plywood” or “moisture-resistant board” without specifying marine or WPB grade is a yellow flag.
Vanity Door Finishes
The visible surfaces have to handle splashes, fingerprints and daily cleaning chemicals.
- HPL (high-pressure laminate): The everyday workhorse. Brands like Admira, Avora and Lianhin offer stone, wood and matte finishes suitable for bathrooms.
- PU lacquer: Sprayed seamless finish — looks premium, but can show watermarks if not maintained.
- Acrylic: High-gloss or matte. Matte hides fingerprints better than gloss.

- Quartz: Reliable, widely available, good price-to-durability ratio. Slightly less heat-resistant than sintered stone but more than adequate for a bathroom.
- Solid surface (e.g. Corian-type): Seamless joints possible. Mid-range pricing. Susceptible to certain stains over time.
- Marble or natural stone: Beautiful but porous and requires regular sealing in a wet environment. Common in luxury condos.
- Tile-clad concrete or plywood: Lowest cost; grout lines collect grime over time.
Sink Configurations
Three popular sink arrangements work well in Singapore bathrooms:
- Counter-top basin: Sits on top of the vanity — visually striking, easy to clean around but takes up usable counter space.
- Under-mount basin: Installed below the countertop — wipes clean in a single motion, very modern look. Requires solid surface or sintered stone countertop.
- Integrated basin: Sink and countertop formed as a single piece (usually solid surface or sintered stone). Highest-end option, no seams to collect grime.
Internal Storage That Actually Helps
Most stock bathroom vanities have one big undivided cabinet below the sink — which becomes a jumble of toilet rolls, cleaning sprays and old shower products within months. Smart internal upgrades:
- Drawer-based vanity instead of doors with a single shelf — easier access to small items
